Summary

We all used to be big fans of toys and once admired them as our hero, but at some point in our lives we just seemed to get over playing with them. Did someone steal our childhood away from us? Or did they just go on an adventure that we never knew?

This project is a “documentary” photo story, where I go to the frontlines and show you how your childhood heroes and favorite toys survive in the toy world. In this project Mini Spartans, I follow Master Chief, the protagonist from the record-breaking Video Game Halo on his journey of defeating villains and self-discovery.

The story starts with me buying Master Chief’s action figure and placing him on a shelf among other collection of toys that I own. Master Chief comes to life and discovers that he is in a different dimension than the world he was previously in. As he navigates through different terrains, he starts off alone, but is later joined by other toys and made friends along the way. Just like how we go through the process of maturing from kids to adults, he struggles to climb over obstacles and overcome difficulties that keep him from advancing. He eventually beats the final “boss” and is welcomed by other toys into the community, which marks our transformation from childhood to adulthood.

The project “Mini Spartans” is a parody of our transformation to adulthood as young millennials. We are all “Mini Spartans” on a journey of pursuing our childhood dreams.
